Originally from a small village near Ghatshila, in the state of Jarkhand in eastern India, Malati* is an 18-year-old girl. She and her younger brother have lost their father and live with their mother, who is struggling to support her children alone. They have both been part of children’s clubs run by RDA**, one of Terre des Hommes Switzerland’s partners, where they became aware of the fundamental rights of children. She faced many obstacles, not being able to express her doubts and difficulties to the teachers of the school she used to attend. Month after month, her results were decreasing in mathematics, English, reading and Hindi writing. The family’s precariousness did not allow them to offer her additional tutoring.
For the past 2 years, she and her brother have been fortunate to attend the local education center run by RDA. The girl’s teachers appeared to her as saviors. They provide her with constant support. Their teaching practices have allowed Malati to regain her confidence and to share her difficulties with them without any hesitation. Little by little, her school results have improved. She successfully passed her end of year exam and is now in the next grade. Malati is also an active member of the children’s club. With her newfound confidence, she does not miss an opportunity to speak out on the Children’s Rights. Here she expresses her sincere gratitude to her teachers.
“Joining the education center has opened a new horizon for me. I am lucky to have the teachers by my side who help me a lot…”.
It is also thanks to your generous support, but also to the attention of his teachers that Malati is building a better future day after day.
