When young people take action for their future and their rights

From Senegal to Haiti, via India and Peru, every year the children and young people supported by Terre des Hommes Suisse work together to raise awareness of climate issues and try to make a difference.

The ‘Save my planet, Save my rights’ campaign pays tribute to their efforts as part of World Environment Day, which takes place every year on 5 June.

It is crucial to take action to ensure that children can benefit from a healthy environment

The fundamental right of children to live in a healthy environment is crucial to their well-being and development. This implies guaranteed access to basic resources such as drinking water, food, education and medical care, as well as protection from environmental hazards such as pollution and natural disasters. Governments, international organisations and local actors have a responsibility to put in place policies and initiatives to preserve this healthy environment and promote sustainable development, taking into account the specific needs of children.

A few figures to inspire young people to take action for their future

570

million children are highly exposed to flooding

1

billion children are heavily exposed to extremely high levels of air pollution

820

million children are highly exposed to heat waves

920

million children are highly exposed to water scarcity

‘Too small to change the world, but big enough to make a difference’.

Our slogan reflects our conviction that, although children cannot transform the world on their own, they nevertheless possess significant power to bring about change on their own scale, within their communities, their families and their loved ones. Terre des Hommes Suisse works in this direction, with the aim of providing direct support to its beneficiaries and those around them.
