Rural aid: ensuring the protection of tea garden children through access to quality education

The lack of infrastructure and the poor economic situation of families living in the closed/semiclosed tea gardens of West Bengal force them to withdraw their children from school, which increases the dropout rate and the number of child workers in these regions.

This situation also encourages dangerous migration and child trafficking. Rural Aid provides educational support through supportive education centres in 5 tea gardens in the Alipurduar district, to ensure the education and protection of the most vulnerable tea garden children.

Capacity-building for children and young people on children’s rights, violations of these rights and protection mechanisms is also part of the project to ensure their active participation in the child protection mechanism at community level.
